I was asked to uninstall Norton 360 on a vista laptop, which i did using the norton removal tool. Once i had done this i looked in the security centre and in the anti virus section i found something very strange! it said something like "AVG is active and up to date", i checked in the add/remove programs and there was not mention of avg in there, i also ran the avg removal tool but this didn't help either.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? |

I've seen a 'No antivirus installed' warning when there was one, but not one identifying a non-existent AV.
Open Task manager and look on the Processes tab. Is there anything there beginning with 'avg'? Have you ever had AVG installed on that system?

Was Norton pre-installed or installed after the machine was acquired?

...try looking here Robbie:
http://www.vistax64.com/vista-securi...-programs.html and here: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-genera...-programs.html This may well be an 'undocumented feature' of Vista. |

I will have to check out those links. I've got the same problem, except it's McAfee that it reports is up to date when I have no signs of it on the computer. It's annoying, but seems to be harmless.
