Default Mobile Phone Directory Opt-out details

A Mobile phone directory service will become operational in the UK as of June 18th. This has been set up as an Opt-out service which many are dubbing a total invasion of privacy.

I count myself in that group - if I wanted people to have my mobile phone number, I would advertise it.

From the point this service is activated, you can expect cold callers on your mobile - be warned cold callers to my mobile: I don't want to hear from you and your organisation will be sent a bill for my time.

To Opt-out call this number 0800 138 6263 or text E to 118800 from the mobile phone you want excluded from the directory.

Hi Alan,

Welcome

Here is the text from the TPS website re mobile phones:

Quote:
The TPS can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved.
I still apply the same view though, my mobile phone is almost exclusively for friends and family to text or call to.

Welcome to us, Alan!

Some telemarketers start at a certain number and dial each one in sequence, so nothing will stop that approach. Some people (mainly small businesses or one-man-bands) rely on a mobile for customer contact when working, so a directory would be useful to them.

Personally, I loathe the things - I spend more money charging mine up than using it!
